First and 2nd last post in a year.

Singapore Mathematical Olympiad 2010 Senior Round 1

Before you flip to the answers, pls kindly post the top 3 scorer and score for the following schools if you know of:
NUSH, RGS, HCI

To start it off, here are the answers in sets of 5:

AEECB
EDBDC
132, 2575, 501, 35, 1994
1005, 216, 27, 2010, 60
2, 65, 72, 32, 2002
49, 112, 60, 6, 680
2780 (not too sure, this is off my head), 5, 360, 75, 12 (you you claim it is correct)

I failed quite a few questions here and there, ending up 4th in RI (missed the team) with a score of 29/35. (No sweets for those who guess the total team score =P)

Q6. Conveniently forgotten the case in which x-90 is negative.
Q24. Did not remember that i can differentiate it, instead go whack random cos double angle formula and got nothing. Guessed 32 (which is correct) then changed to 34, 3 seconds before the time is up. hence fail.
Q27. Sum wrongly. How smart.
Q29. Misread condition as a+b is a multiple of c.
Q31. Ignored all the f(x) in front of the 2^[f(x)], got M=78336 or something like that
Q35. Guessed 10. You you say dunno then must guess GM, which is 12. (he calculated it to be 12)

Summary:
Questions unsure of proper solution (during the paper): 14, 24, 28, 35
Careless: 6, 27, 29, 31

First Post of July =D

25 days since I last updated. Haiz

Going through the projects that are due, I am surprised that I made it this far and will be not surprise if I die before the end of next week.

Last Week
--SMP final report
--English Social Advocacy Presentation
--Chemistry CREATIVE assignment
--Biology report on respiratory diseases
--Chines Oral/Skit

I slept an average of 5 hours the last week.

Coming Week
--Math Common Class Test
--Math PT
--Bio Common Class Test
--华文专题作业
--3 full day SJPO training

I really hope that my class don't get quarantined. 4 people down with flu already. Since 53% of local flu is caused by H1N1, it is most likely that at least one is H1N1. Whoops.

IWYMIC was really fun. The people there are really friendly and the city so clean that we can supposedly drink straight from the tap. (no one dared to either way).

The excursions to a Game Reserve and Marine World was way cool. I just happened to loss my specs when floating around in this place with a really strong current. The water is like 10 degrees Celsius, and after spending 20min looking for my specs, I can't even feel my whole leg. In the end someone there had to go snorkeling for my specs.

For the competition itself, RI individual is 1 gold, 1silver, 1 bronze and 1HM. We got silver for the group award and surprisingly ended as Champions of the Team Round. For overall score, we are in the 6th position with 580 points, losing to the 5th by 15 points and the 4th by 42 points. Mr Kwa claims that this is the best performance RI had so far.

3 of us (Ryan, Joseph, me) came back sick with flu. I am not too sure what happened to the other 2, but I burned 39 degrees for 2 days straight, even under the effects of panadol. The doctor said that H1N1 is so mild that is almost no different from normal flu, and told me don't even bother checking for it. I think I might have caught H1N1 myself. =D

If someone wants to see the pictures, go to facebook and look at the 5 albums I uploaded. Blogger picture upload is horribly slow.

On a side note, try this reversi applet at the following address. http://home.datacomm.ch/t_wolf/tw/misc/reversi/index.html
See if you can win on beginner mode. I won once (34 -30) for the near 20 times I played. >.<

A new term, a new beginning

Can't believe that holidays are over already. I hardly gotten any rest to recharge myself for the new term. >.<

I had only 2 weekdays to myself all thanks to my wonderful cca that took up 8 days of my life and I absolutely see no point in going down there for a few hours a week running around doing stupid drill to train discipline. Not as if I will not get enough during NS. Either way, due to the open nature of this blog, I shall refrain from entering further complaints regarding my cca.

Regarding homework, I only did the bare minimum that will allow me to go through Day 1 with any annoyed looks from teachers. So I have to clear the rest during the next 4 days. It is a good thing that all CCA will be cancelled for this week due to H1N1. And since I am not here for week 2, so I will be missing quite a bit of training.

Nevertheless, this holiday is highly productive in terms of math training with me popping down to NUS for 4 whole days and spending 2 whole days whacking questions at home. I hope that my simo career will NOT be the following: Junior--Senior--Nat Training--Senior. Time to look through all past training notes again. If I have time that is. Haiz.

I will be flying off to Durban, South Africa next week. Can anyone tell me who is going from the rgs side? We need to agree on something to do for the cultural presentation.
